KLICKITAT AREA ON THE COLUMBIA RIVER:

In the Pacific Northwest, the Columbia River near the Klickitat River is a popular spot for fall Salmon fishing. As summer gives way to autumn, fall Chinook and Coho Salmon make their way upstream from the Pacific Ocean to spawn.

Anglers flock to the area for the chance to catch these impressive fish. Fall Chinook, also called King Salmon, are known for their size and strength. They have distinctive silver and green scales that shine in the sunlight. Coho Salmon, or silvers, are equally sought after for their acrobatic leaps and spirited fights. Fishing here is a mix of anticipation and camaraderie. Anglers get their boats ready or stake out spots along the shore in the early morning. The tranquil appearance of the river hides the power beneath the surface, where the Salmon battle the current in their journey upstream.

Local guides and experienced anglers offer advice and stories, fostering a sense of shared enthusiasm for the river's offerings. This is one of our favorite fishing opportunities on the Columbia River, and we love sharing stories and our knowledge of the Klickitat area with all of our charter clients.

As the day progresses, the excitement builds. The unmistakable pull on the line signals the start of the angler's challenge. The river comes alive with action as anglers reel in their catches. Shouts of victory mix with the sounds of splashing water and the colorful fall foliage.

Fall Chinook and Coho Salmon fishing on the Columbia River near the Klickitat River isn't just about catching fish. It's a way to appreciate the natural cycle of the area, witness the determination of these fish, and connect with the river and friends. It's an invitation to experience adventure, natural beauty, and the outdoors at their finest.

Depending on the season and regulations we will be targeting the Salmon run in this area anywhere from mid to late September clear through November. Chinook retention continues until the regulations prohibit them, at which point the Coho fishing starts to get excellent. This is another "must do" fishery if you’re wanting to get Coho Salmon because it can absolutely be lights out! Many days result in my guests limiting out.
