ASTORIA, OREGON:
Astoria and the world renowned Buoy 10 Fishery on the Columbia River is a don’t miss fishery. Some of the best fishing the Pacific Northwest has to offer is right here in our backyard. Basically called the Superbowl of salmon fishing, people will travel for miles just to partake in this once a year cycle of the Fall Chinook and Coho Salmon as they enter the mouth of the Columbia.

If you’re looking for action, action, action, then Buoy 10 is your destination of choice. Lots of encounters with a wide array of fish. Great for the family and older children wanting to get into salmon fishing because the pure, action packed days will keep them engaged.

The Buoy 10 fishery is are very unique and unlike anything we have in the area. Thousands and thousands of hungry Chinook and Coho Salmon lurk in the waters just waiting to attack any prey they can get their mouth on. There are several different stocks of Chinook all converging in one single place. Lower River Hatchery, Lower River Wild, Lower River Bright, Bonneville Pool Hatchery, Upriver Bright, Snake River Wild, Pool Upriver Bright, Select Area Bright. That's probably more information than you need but I mention it just to give you the scope and size of this mega fish frenzy that all come together for this once a year fantastic fishery. It’s definitely a bucket list fishery for every avid fisher to enjoy.

The weather is usually good and the fishing and scenery is amazing, which makes this a must-do fishing trip every year. After the Chinook Salmon season closes for retention in Astoria the Coho season continues and for many this is the best time of the year because the crowds are gone and the fishing can be excellent.

PORTLAND & HOOD RIVER AREA:

The Portland area Chinook and Coho continues in September. These are the same fish we were fishing for in Astoria, but we will be targeting them as they pass on the Columbia near the Portland area. Fishing is excellent and very close to home which’s makes this fishery very convenient. We will continue to fish the Portland area until they close the season, at which point we move up river to the Klickitat area.

COASTAL RIVERS

We will be targeting these fish down on the Coastal Rivers in  either the bays, tidewater, or tributaries when the rains hit and the river water levels come up. “The tug is a drug!”... this is the truth when it comes to these Chinook down here. Fighting these fish is a game of tug-a-war, with fish reaching 20-40 pounds, and average 10-20 lbs.
